One thing to consider when increasing torque is the ability of the vehicles drive train to cope. With the DII TD5 auto, the torque converter is prone to cracking its mounting plate. This cracking and inevitable failure occurs in standard non chipped vehicles, so the chances are increased when chipped.. Approximately $4000 for a new torque converter. I've been through this scenario, luckily the vehicle was under extended warranty.

Hi Tombraider, I was wondering if you could help me with info on how to chip my disco...... it is a 2004 town td5 and is pretty special. (In fact it is my mid life crisis). it loves me and I love it...

I have heard a few things about chipping... different types, and I wanted to know the best option... a few guys from the forum suggest that you are the man to help me. for example what, how much, how long and what difference it will make.

I am looking forward to your reply

    cheers Shoumby

    Re-chipped D2..WOW

    Howdy
About a year ago I rechipped my 2001 D2 Auto at around 85,000Km
    What a difference..WOW

I had Ritters Automotive ( Melbourne ) supply and fit the changeover ECU.
They then Tuned/adjusted the settings ..all done whilst I waited.
It came from the guy in Sydney who has been rebuilding performance landys for yonks. His name escapes me right now although I phoned him prior to visiting Ritters.
Even though it was a Changeover unit ..and therefore I cannot easily go back to original...I would never want to!

    Result: a different car why?

Now goes over hills in top gear wih ease.
    Less turbo lag
Will "chirp" tyres occasionally when it is booted
Pulls Ultimate camper on (gravel) roads without the constant hunting between 3rd and 4th usually found at around 80kph
Performs more like a car in the city..more responsive in traffic.
Fuel economy similar..maybe 1+ litre per 100Km worse? ( and probably better than struggling in 3rd when towing)
HUGE torque increase and big power increase..in the vicinity of 30%???

    BEST $$$ ever spent.
    Around $1100 from memory?

You could phone Ritters on (03) 9808 0266 and ask about this mod and the name of the guy in Sydney.
They would probably give you a contact number.

    Hope this helps
    Cheers
    Bob

How long is a matter for the damn freight companies, usually 3-4 days, using a overnight carrier...

The difference, it makes the vehicle come alive, I'm sure many people will tell you how it is... the improvement is around 30%...

Price? PM for details if your interested, but I look after AULRO members very well.

I have the original Bruce Davis chip with upgraded intercooler and 3 inch exhaust. All I can say is WOW!!!!
My beast is putting out a huge amount for it's size. It's also converted to an auto and hasn't cracked the mounting plate but mine is also a custom plate.

those who have the tombraider chip are very happy also. I have no idea on the difference between the two but beleive Bruce Davis doesn't up the power to the level of mine on the chips he sells.

    Hi Edd
I have had plenty of offers from my mate to give his 130 a flogging.
    He says it flies.
His is a 2004 ish runing the tuneit system.
Problem is the offer always comes after 3 or 4 pints of homebrew,so I havent had a go yet.
Will get him to give Blackbetty a flogging on the same sober day IF IT EVER HAPPENS!!! So we can compare the 2.

You probably get a better run from an actual chip mod over the piggy back units.
