Hi Folks,
as you would be aware, on the county, the lower sides of the the windscreen frame are permanently mounted by a cast pivot/hinge....
my questions are...
is this actually a hinge?
and, if so, can the pivot pin be driven out (or is it otherwise retained (threaded/braised etc)?
thanks

Why do you want to remove the pin? - the thing is bolted to both the windscreen fram and the bulkhead.
Later Defenders have a bracket instead of a hinge, which I believe is interchangeable with the hinge. (unless you want to fold the windscreen)

Well it sure looks as though it can be driven out.
And I've already got a destroyed one, its got a hole like its been drilled

I would think long and hard before adding anything that puts extra load on them - they are relatively thin walled alloy diecast, and while they seem to do their job without problems, I would be worried about extra load on them.
Probably a better point for the purpose would be the bolt on top of the mudguard just outside the back corner of the bonnet - it has a fairly substantial steel bulkhead bracket behind it, or even better the top door hinge mounting bolts. In any case the type of support you are contemplating is likely to run foul of roadworthiness authorities both from the point of view of vision and pedestrian danger.

well........ you could be right about the rule makers & keepers, of course, ...........however I've been fortunate to date not to come across any such pedants who have taken owners to task for items like front extension pipe racks mounted on bullbars, spares & tools on bonnets & fenders, hf aerials out front etc, and what I'm thinking of is miniscule compared to these so I won't worry about that for now.
its the structural considerations that are important in regard to off-road reliabilty - thanks
