Ello All!
I have just taken delivery of my new black checker plate wings.(A good price of $175 + freight from Rover Craft in Syd.!)
But they did not come with any mounting hardware or instructions?????
So can some one help me?
Do I need to put anything under them? i.e. a thin sheet on rubber?
&
What sort of screws/nuts & bolts/rivots, do you think I should use?
Any other tips???? Before I go drilling into my nice new shiny car
Cheers,
they sound nice
mine are plain shiny ol al treadplate and are attached with self-tappers & poprivets with nuthin' under them ... but its very definitely not a new vehicle...
no doubt one of the technical gurus will pipe up with a method that has more finesse..
Theres a few ways of doing them some people use nutserts and bolt them on some use screws id go with 3/16 countersunk rivets and use plenty of them dose the sides of the wing tops have a slight roll on them like the front edge so they sit neat on the top of the wing as for putting something under them its up to you id go for a bead of sika flex around the outer edge to seal them on and id also put a dob on the shaft of each rivet to seal it as well![]()
and some just sikka flex them on full stop! i didnt want to drill holes in my 90
cheers phil
I used rivets but before I put them on I bought a big roll of double sided tape and put strips on the back the the plates. Rivets to hold it in place and the double sided tape to prevent any rattles.

aluminium pop rivets (no corrosion then from dissimilar metals![]()
and ran around the edges with silicone to seal them (masked it all off so it's nice and neat)
I only installed the chequer plate to cover up a bad case of cellulite![]()
Thank you all for your comments, I think tomorrow I will get myself some black silicon and some black rivets. Then with gritted teeth I'll stick the wings down with a liberal amount of silicon then drill through the fenders on the nice new carand pop rivet them permanently into place!
Wish me luck I hate putting holes in a new car!!!
Cheers,
Try to get the brand sikka flex and not any silicone. There is a lot of difference in quality.
Sikka alone will do the job just perfect.
Cheers
Sikkaflex is good at one thing... making anything stick to anything else... It doesn't dissolve in solvents (I used it to seal up a fuel tank sender). So make sure you don't make any mistakes with the stuff...
The only problem with just bonding the plates on is that it will be a nightmare should you ever want to get them off. Where as you can just drill out rivets.
My two cents...
