I started it this morning and oil warning light was illuminated. I tested oil pressure with a quad-gauge with no pressure reading at all.
I suspected either the pick-up, relief valve or the obvious one being the oil pump itself. Just wondering if anyone else has experienced anything similar, or if there is a particular problem with the 300tdi's. Any advice would be much appreciated.
Having dropped the sump, I have now found some metal fragments in the bottom. Looks like a bit of work to do............will keep you posted on outcome.

This is a VERY unusual problem for a Tdi. (Welcome to AULRO by the way
)
I would suspect a broken relief valve spring, but a pick up failure, (A crack or similar in the pipe) could also be the culprit. AGAIN, VERY unusual for these as the oil pump is driven off the front of the crank....
