    CDL in deefers?

are defenders fitted with a CDL, if so, what year was it introduced, and with what gearbox/transfer case combination?

I may be wrong - but I had the impression that every Defender has always had CDL

In fact hasn't CDL been the main feature of the LR since the Series 1 ???

I understood it was only the Disco during 2000 - 2002 that had the CDL removed

You are right about the Defender, all defenders have a CDL.
A little bit "off-track" with the all landys having them.
Series1 2 and 3 up to the Stage1 were all part time 4x4 so have no CDL as there isnt a centre diff.
Stage 1s,Classic Rangie (except those with the viscous centre diff) Disco1s all had the CDL.

As LandyAndy says. All Defenders with all gearbox/transfer case combinations, and their predecessor 110/90/120 had a centre diff lock.

Most Series Landrovers did not have a centre diff, as they were part time four wheel drive, so no centre diff lock. The exceptions are Stage 1 V8 and Isuzu, which shared the Classic Rangerover transmission with full time four wheel drive and a centre diff lock, and the very early Series 1 which had a free wheel instead of a centre diff, and a lock for this, although its function was not exactly the same.

to my knowlodge the only ones that didnt have a cdl (excluding the series) were some of the rangies, discos and the freelander they had either the viscous coupling or traction control that was ment to take its place.

    CDL Finding ?

I just purchased a 1999 series 2 TD5 It has the hill decent and traction control . I am not sure if I have the CDL still fitted inside the transfer case . I read somewere that some of the series 2 s had the CDL in place but dissconected . If it has can CDL be regained by fitting a lever kit ? 2 . Can the Electric traction control and hill descent be imobilised or switched on or off ? 3. Is it worth it ? Regards George

George, if you use the search function (toolbar just up above here) you will find more information on difflocks and traction control than you will know what to do with.
