    I had to do both of mine on the D1, the bottoms of the channels had both rusted out!!

    dunno how that happened

    Drilled out the old spot welds, and in their place MIG welded 3 welds through the holes. Seemed to do the trick as I now have an opening and closing window again. That'll make early morning trips a bit warmer and a lot less drafty (sp? - draughty?).

    Good result for an hour's worth of tinkering. Just hoping the welds hold, as I'm not much of a welder.....

    JohnE was right on the money with his diagnosis.
