    300tdi oil

    Ok
Just ordered half a truck load of filters, fuel, oil and air cleaner elements.
About to do my first sevice on the disco and wondering what is the recommended oil or what are others using. Seem to recall people using penrite? but living in a small town I havnt seen it about so what else.
    cheers

OK - you'll get as many opinions as replies I guess

Penrite does seem to be highly regarded

FWIW - I use Castrol RX super in everything - I find it's a good mid-range quality/price compromise and it is readily available and it sells from $75 to $90 per 20litres (depending on the mood of the retailer or the price of oil? )

I use Castrol RX Super too - changed every 5000km - filter every 10K.
SuperCheep sell it in 20 litre drums and sometimes have it on special.

as long as I get 350 - 400,000km out of my engine using mineral oil I'll be happy

oh, and bblaze, use whatever decent 15w-40 diesel oil you can get locally.
Caltex Delo 400, Mobil Delvac MX, BP Vanellus Global, Castrol RX Super, Fuchs Titan Ultralube, etc are all fine oils that will protect more than adequately.
If possible, use an oil with a CI-4 or CI-4+ specification, but at a minimum I wouldn't use anything less than an API CF-4 spec.

False economy to do what Waynep says "change oil every 5000klms and Filter every 10000klms".
The filter picks up most of the carbon and crap floating around in your oil and when you put in New oil the Old filter with all the crap in it contaminates your New oil, it's like having a shower with a raincoat on, it doesn't work.
Replace your filter every time you replace your oil, Regards Frank.

but surely if the filter has filtered it then how can it get back into the system unless you run the oil in reverse? i dont see the logic there... plus the cetrifugal takes most out too doesnt it? (if the 300tdi has one)

i seem to remember a post on here about the oil filter getting more effective the older it gets (up to point!)

    Thanks

    Steve
