    Talking Waste vegetable oil???

The forums on this seem a little old. Can you run a tdi on WVO and what negatives are involved.. Have a friend who runs his cruiser with no mods other than 2 fuel tanks. Starts and stops on Diesel recons no problems with seals ect. Only thing he does is filter oil and mix about 1 liter of fuel to 19lts of oil. ????? Not sue of the secret mix at this time. Thinking on a long bush trip you could run on oil and save heaps. Obviously looking at set up costs.

Be happy to call and have one on one talk to those who run wvo in their beasts.

I looked into it when I was offered an unlimited supply of SVO (Straight Vege Oil). However for SVO to match the lubricosity of Diesel it must be heated to 180degC. Coolant run heat exchangers would only reach about 80degC on a Tdi.

Apparently SVO is fine on older Mercs and old technology stuff, but not recommended for high speed turbo diesels.

At this stage I'm not prepared to risk early fuel pump failure for a short term monetary gain. But there's more to learn about the subject than I know, so I'm happy to be corrected.

I did it as an experiment for about 2 months on kermit which while admitedly not a tdi is mechanically close enough to be acceptable for comparison.

I didnt even have a dual tank setup up there and while a bit piggish to get started once going it was all good.

I did have "heater" wires run around the bits that I wanted to warm up and all I did in terms of treatment was to filter it hot as it was coming out of the vat and then leave it for a week in a 60l drum that was painted black with a small fan on top of it to suck the moisture out of the drum.

Starting was just a case of going downstairs 20 minutes before I wanted to leave turning the heater wires on and then having breakky, a coffee making a roady and then heading down to glowngo. by the time Id idled out the dive, shut the gate and eased it to the end of the road (about 300m) it was running sweet and was ready for full noise which given it was a 2.25 NA diesel was about as loud as a mouse farting.

I had also made a vauge attempt at keeping the fuel warm by sort of inuslating the tank and routing the return line via a small tube wrapped around the exhuast pipe.

Have a look at the SVO section on this site Bio Fuels Forums - Powered by vBulletin These blokes are very well informed (some through years of experience) and will be able to answer your questions. It is also worth looking here Vegie Cars - VegieCars, Chip Oil, Veggie Cars, WVO, SVO, UCO, Veggie Oil, Carbon Cops, Biodiesel, Biofuel (worth purchasing the booklet) and here Welcome to Snotta.com There are companies in Europe that sell conversion kits for brand new "modern tdi" vehicles as well as other current model trucks and commercial vehicles if you search for them. The best thing to do, is not listen to opinions and do the research yourself, there is plenty of info out there. I plan to convert my 300tdi later this year and don't expect any problems given the information I have. It is all about the preparation.

Dave your not building my confidence in my soon to be rebuilt 2.25 Diesel going into my 73 seriesIII 109 with statements like, Quote: "and was ready for full noise which given it was a 2.25 NA diesel was about as loud as a mouse farting".
Love it, you really have a way with words, Regards Frank.

It is widely held that the CAV DPA injector pump (as fitted to the 2.25D) SHOULD NOT be used with veg oil. Something to do with a fuel scroll not having enough clearance for the high viscosity veg oil...

The 4BD1 (Diesel Kiki) and 300Tdi (Bosch VE), on the other hand, work fine on WVO, and there are thousands of happy users worldwide. Just need to make sure you have a good preheat for the fat tank, and start/stop on diesel.

A mate of mine found that his 4BD1 idled on 4 cylinders on WVO, but only 3 on diesel - he had a head gasket problem on opne cylinder!!!
