    Power steering filter.

Can someone tell me, does the power steering system like on an early 80's range rover have a filter inside the reservoir? I have asked about one at filter places and just get blank looks. If it does where do you get one. I am putting new steering box on and am changing the fluid, thought a new filter might be good to.

    Cheers WR.

My experience last year. There is a filter, and like you I thought that I should change it seeing I was replacing the box.
Same experience - none of the filter suppliers could help (they probably all use the same books anyway), local power steering specialist simply said "I won't have anything to do with Landrovers".
Tried a number of Landrover specialists - usual response was "Never sold or been asked for one - nobody ever replaces them!", but eventually found one at All Four x 4 Spares, although I think it may have been the only one they had!

It's pretty common for Power Steering systems not to have any form of filtration or any real service schedule for that matter! Needless to say most systems are left until they leak or wear out. Considering the small volume of oil in them it's hardly surprising to find all sorts of crud inside when you pull them apart. This of course is how the repairers make a living. Inline filters are available (try Repco) and usually fit into the return line to the reservoir.

    Good luck.
