    TD5 down on Power

I took the wifes 99 disco TD5 to Melbourne on the weekend and was shocked at the lack of power it has. It also is blowing excessive black smoke. Now this car has only travelled 104,000 kilometres. It is also surging on the cruise control. Can anyone help or point me in the right direction on its cause. Are these problems related? All filters are new but this problem has become progressively worse over time.
    Cheers

Check the intercooler hoses haven't become soft & collapsing.
It's a common problem & cab cause those symptoms, usually under acceleration though.

and the wastegate modulator... there seems to be a lot of those going wrong lately.

chances are with black smoke its the hoses collapsing as it doesnt get enough air in for the fuel so burns far more fuel to air.. so therefore the black smoke occurs..

the other things it could be are air filter blocked (or intake), blocked intercooler, maybe even a split hose?

perhaps worth a check on the old oil in harness too just for good measure! (do a search for info on here)

    Thanks

    FYI Follow up post.
Thought I would get off my lazy backside and flip the bonnett to find a two inch tear in the intercooler hose at the turbo end. Therefore the TD5 was non turbo for a whilst. The TD5 Runs two hoses for the intercooler. A "Z" shaped hose at the intercooler end with two 90 degree bends in it and a 45 degree bend at the turbo end. In between is a metal tube.
I bought some new hoses today and got ripped (IMHO) $68.20 for the z shaped hose and $46.20 for the other one. Will fit them tomorrow.
Thanks again to all those who replied.
