interesting, that I dropped my EGT's by over 20* when I went to a 3" exhaust on stock pump fuelling.
I have fitted an intercooler 650*350*75 bar/plate to front of my discovery. First improvment was in noise. Sounds fab. Spool time and rate is now very different. Spools faster initially and more smoothly to 10 psi. Slower 10 to 25 psi (yes 25psi) but much lower intake temps. Usually ambient plus 20c @ idle and close to abient when moving. Launch from stationary is very much improved. Gearbox problems are now starting after 10K klms of abuse despite fitting custom cooler 550*150*40 pipe/fin. No temp problems, clutch plates are wearing and making ATF dirty.
EGT's- Now consistently better at cruise speeds. 300-400C Re-tuned to reach 700C at WOT and 180 seconds. Interestingly Once 25 psi is reach I can get out of the throttle by 30% without change to acceleration. So when pulling up a range WOT is not req'd. This is good because the std radiator (408*388) does not cope when A/c is on!!!!!!!!! Current problem, looks like it will get a custom ARE aluminium jobby. Hope this helps.
"anyone done any inlet/outlet/ambient temps on Jases' I/C ? I have some stock numbers written down somewhere...." - Rick130Rick, Iim interested too. Can you share the stock numbers you have please
"1 degree in = 1 degree out rule " - DougalThanks Dougal. If dck7aok is getting ambient +20 at idle for his full width IC, how much are people getting with Jase's IC ?
*bump*
found it. Posted on the then LRE (now Land Rover Addict) board in '03....
This hill is a climb of around 160-180m over 2.5km about 8km from my old house.

Some of the claims of a larger intercooler giving a power/torque boost have some validity after taking some temperature readings at the turbo outlet, and the intercooler outlet. (these were taken in the air stream) At WOT up a long steep hill, towing a horse float, 13*C ambient, I recorded a peak temp reading of 106*C at the turbo outlet, and 64*C at the intercooler outlet, 51* above ambient. Definate scope for inprovement.
BTW, that was @ 15.5 psi and stock fuelling.
Dougal, anyone that's driven a Patrol with the non intercooled TD42T in 35*+ temps feels your pain.
One little bridge over the railway line to the local tip has to be traversed in 1st gear on a hot day in the Patrol. It dies in the ar$e so badly when it gets warm, and they only use around 7psi stock.......
John/Bush65 uses a water/air i/c on one of his beasts, I think he bought it through ARE over here in Brisbane, and I've noticed PWR have been selling a barrel shaped water cooled i/c that they claim is very efficient. It raised a mention in the last issue I bought of Racetech, too.

I've got one of those large air/water intercoolers ready to go in. But I'm holding off installing it until my 24spline axles are in.
I've got around 500Nm at 1000m altitude with no overheating issues, but an intercooler that takes 60% of the heat out would give the same air density at 12psi instead of 20.
This is the dyno I use to calculate power and torque.
