    Leaking Carbie

My 101 has a standard twin carb 3.5 V8. When I first got it the right hand carbie leaked from the bottom.

Before I had a chance to look at it, the leak stopped, but it is now back. The leak seems to be coming from the drain plug at the bottom of the carb but it is too hard to see in there to confirm this and the leak could be elsewhere and just dripping off the bottom.

I would really prefer not to have to take the carby off but I am sure I will have too. I will probably have to replace the seal on the drain plug but what else can leak at the bottom of the carb - the leak is definitely not coming from higher up.

    Any thoughts would be appreciated.

    Cheers

    It's not a drain plug.
It's the seat for the main jet.
It is sealed by AFAIK 2 o rings which get old.( as it has to be able to turn to adjust the mixture.)
Just get a kit for the carbys and rebuild both as it sounds like it is long overdue.
These old type Strombergs do not have automatic needle centering so the needles and main jets wear a lot over time. It is very worthwhile from a fuel economy perspective to replace both.

Thanks Philip - looks like the carby does have to come out

I am just trying to get the truck roadworthy at the moment with the minimum amount of work and when it is on the road do all the nice things like a proper tune-up etc. The engine does run very well even with the leak so tuning and carby setup must be reasonably close.

Thanks - I will take care in noting the position of the mainjet when I pull it out.
