Exactly, thats where I'm going with the Disco...

TT front and Rear, with TC will be perfect for 99.5% of what I drive now...

Never had any lockers in Lara.. She just didnt need them...:angel:

Plus, theres a lot to be said for learning to drive the terrain first, then, after mastering the open wheels head for lockers....

You'd be amazed where a stock open diff' Landy can go if you get the line right!

Several reasons... Note, these are MY opinions only.

1. Previous experience with locked rear, they are "low side finders" and on side slopes will drift the back of the vehicle across the slope...
I've been in many situations like this (sand, mud etc) and needed to shut the locked drive off to cross the cambered area safely.

2. I'm very happy with open diffs, and the LSD will just add more capability to an already excellent vehicle. The TC will trigger the LSD as required so will enhance the vehicle without the full level of locked...

3. If i was going fully locked it would be manual, but I want stealth capability with fit and forget logic, so LSD for me.... Otherwise it would be ARBs again.

4. I dont do half the type of driving I used too... Just some rock scrambling and sand driving with touring in there too...
No need for locked...

The disco was fully locked on 35's and was boring to drive, never a challenge, and always went anywhere I pointed it... I started to not use lockers, just to make the drive more interesting. Hence why no lockers in Lara... She never needed them, and my skills honed up greatly driving to suit the open diffs... Albeit with some TC assistance.

I drove bog hole after bog hole, sand, mud etc... even showed up a patrol by climbing a huge dune in reverse to prove how capable it was open diffed...

Oh yeah!

Slunnie will also agree, with the rear locked the front end can ramp up in the air some times.... Can be disconcerting! Ability to unlock becomes handy then to 'shift' the vehicle around on the surface using the open diff.

Do you believe you had to use a hell of a lot more momentum without lockers? A big this for me is driving softly and easily to minimise abuse to my car. Is this a wrong way of thinking?

I am a sympathetic driver on my driveline...

SLow and low (pressure) was my main driving style.

Reflected by the fact Lara is still running std front CVs, shafts etc and only has MaxiDrive rear axles during a warranty job at 11,000kms

I dont wheel spin offroad unless in mud to clear the treads.

no not quite the answer is further down in a nutshell (and its been ocvered elsewhere on this site) the way the truetrack works is by epicyclic magic amplifying the amount of resistance offered by the spinning wheel which allows a proportionately larger amount of torque to be applied to the oppsoing wheel

no that should work nicely just be aware of potential axle breakage on the front end if you lock the rear without having the Center difflock on. Id suggest that taking the power feed to turn it on should come from the CDL warning light circut to help prevent it. That will also help with the "oops I for got to unlock it" breakages of the rear end should you hit bitumen an keep driving.

Im thinking that should you get in a world of stuck and you happen to have everything locked both the fronts spin a bit, then the TC activates on one front wheel sending drive across to the other wheel which will speed up and tc grabs that and does the rinse repeat thing sending the drive back and forth you might be putting your front end at risk. The risk IMHO will be greater than a standard open diff due to the multiplication effect of the diff as previously explaind. But thats a theory only

sorry mate the truetracks do it as well but not as badly.

Sorry, Dave, yeah...

I'm aware of the LSD slide, but nowhere near as noticeable as the locked drive!

the worst part about it is they drive normally on some side slopes but not others....

a locked diff slips the same way for the same reason every time if you slope it locked up.

the truetrack is hit and miss.... and its worse in the rear than the front...
