he's never had one loosen, nor have I.....plus they don't stock the lock tabs in the store at work:(:angel:

I have had similar experiences with both my cars.

I had the drive shaft shortened in my ute by a local engineering company. They failed to torque the six in hex bolts the hold the centre coupling together. I found one of the bolts in my car port after a half hour jaunt down the free way.....:eek:

I had my car "tuned" by a local performance centre here in perth. After charging me almost twice the max i had agreed upon with them i was left with a (imho) crap tune and i have just noticed the front drive shaft (which was removed for the dyno runs) is ready to fall out. Obviously once again the drive shaft bolts wheren't torqued to spec.:confused:

That's just one of the good reasons I do everything on my Rovers myself. It also costs me less, I get a free lesson in how to (and how not to) do things, it keeps me off the streets and out of trouble, and teaches me patience.

There is very little I don't know how to fix on my 2a or 3, and I'm looking forward to learning everything about my forward control. I wouldn't farm out any jobs to anyone else because I can't be certain of a quality job every time for the often extortive outlay - after all, these old machines are an apprentice-level or backyard mechanic's job. It's my own silly fault (and no bank-breaking outlay) if I get it wrong, and a source of pride if I do it right.

I pity those people with cars that don't allow them to DIY. The dealer/mechanics have them over a barrel.

Ok, I think I'm all ranted out...

I'm not going to rant about this, because i have done so 3 times now in as many days.

I do my work myself. I don't always know how. I learn.

I'm seeing a very common theme recurring around here about this topic. ;)

Those bolts arent loose, its a new floating crown wheel arrangement :p, but should have springs in there to cushion the movement.
