    Bfg 245/75r/16

    Gday Aulroian;

    Today I called a Tyre shop in balkham hills to
    enquire about the availability of BFG 245/75R/16
    and was told that this tyre isn't available in oz
    and Michellin the suppliers of BFG are not
    planning on importing any more
    of this tyre size into the country ,I know there
    are many other options available at this stage in
    terms of brand /size etc , Just wondering what people here
    use and if you are happy with your options, also
    would it be better off staying with BFG and
    changing to another size , may be 235/85R/16.

    Would 235/85R/16 give me a slightly more vehilce Lift ?

    If my maths is correct:

    235/85R/16 = 32.3" dia
    245/75R/16 = 31" dia

    So the 235/85R/16 would give you a little bit (about 16mm) more lift.

    Yes you would have more lift, but how much of your body work are you prepared to cut away to make them fit? The gearing would also be raised requiring either a Defender transfer case or lower ratio diffs. It may pay to get a second opinion on the availability of the BFG's, the 245's are quite a common size for them to be discontinuing them, though they are usualy 70 profile rather than 75 for disco's.

    Thanks for replies fellas;

    Jimbo
    i've been running the 245/75R/16 BFG 's now almost 5 years , I've had to cut a quite a bit of the guards already , to stop the outside tread of the tyres rubbing against the guards on full flex, but ever since swicthing to king rims from standard Disco alloys ( and i suspect this is due to incorrect rim offset of the kings steelies) that the 245/75R/16 's are rubbing a bit more on the guards and this is apparent by groove patthers on the tyre treads.

    will I need to go to 4.11 diffs ratio from the standard 3.54:1?

    I'll make a few more calls to different tyre places to find out if anyone has 245/75R/16 size in stock, i didn't particulaly wanna change as i have 6 tyres of 245/75R/16 and 2 are still brand new and the other 4 on the car and pretty worn and Just wanted to buy 2 more tyres , but it sounds like It's going to cost me a fair bit more if I change tyre sizes , which goes back to your original point..alright time to make a few more calls..
