Take the shaft out - while it is probably possible to replace a U-joint with the other end still attached or by splitting it at the spline, I would take it out - only anothe four bolts, and it saves messing about trying to line up the splines.

    uni joints

If you dont have a press or a big vice that you can use as a press, you may be better off taking the shaft to a workshop / machanic that has a press I have seen some heart ache by blokes trying to do the job without the right gear.

If its only the front one thats giving you hassles then undo it and then after marking the splines seperate the prop shaft.... BUT...

if ones gone the others not normally far behind it. drop the whole shaft, dont be cheap do them both at the same time and if its been bloody ages since you last had your propshaft looked at or checked take it to somewhere that knows how to balance them, get them to change the ujs and then balance the shaft.

you can get away with beating them with a hammer and a socket over a block of wood with a socket after you take the clips out but if its going to fight you all the way out more than likely it will fight you all the way in. Thats not cool for the longevity of the bearings.

    These might help

    YouTube - MG U-Joint

This one makes it look easy

I would say that the first is more likely the case, a little hammer action required.

If you like to read instead of vids here is one for you
