No clunk, no noise, no change in engine note or revs, no pull, no nothing. It's like I haven't moved the gear lever (except it is out of Park). I've double checked and the lever on the side of the auto box is changing position with the gear lever movement.

are you absolutely sure that the TC is in either low or high and not in neutral ???

I know it may seem daft, but sometimes .............................

    G`day Dave

Only guessing coz i`m not there and it`s only something to consider in your search .

It`s possible you can`t get low range because the auto`s not turning and in turn the transfer .

It`s not unheard of for the splines that live in the converter be removed from the shaft or a similar problem .

This has everything happening as usual but drive is lost , not much noise if any .
Some have described it as clunk and buzz then none but not much more .

    Cheers

Hi Dave, if you can push the truck with the auto in neutral (high range in transfer case), but it wont move when put into park, then the problem is with the auto trans as the drive is getting from the auto to the wheels. Have you checked the oil level in the auto?

Ladas - Thanks for your reply. I'm pretty sure since I've got the cover off the transfer box and I can see and feel the locking collar engage in high range.

PLR - Thanks for your reply. That sounds horribly like it fits my situation. What's the cure?

Jimbo - Thanks for your reply. I'll check that in the morning. I confess I've never bothered checking the fluid level the way it says in the handbook - I've just checked the dipstick for fluid and if it's present and not a strange colour then I'm happy.

Oil on the dipstick tells you that there is SOME oil in the Gearbox, check the oil level correctly, start engine (cold) run the gearstick up and down the gears a few times, quickly remove the dipstick, wipe clean, stick it back in and pull it straight back out, no oil (or very little) on dipstick, try again, still no oil, top up carefully a 100mls at a time, till it reaches correct position on dipstick, remember over filling can cause problems as well, if you put too much in drain excess out. No oil, No go, start with the easy bits first, Regards Frank.
