Quote: "Although i can`t see any sign of a raised fire ring on my gaskets as they are used ones , it could be that as Frank suggests though the metal to metal theory doesn`t work because it is all metal to metal because that part of the gasket is all metal ."

I wasn't referring to the metal fire rings, I was referring to parts of the gasket that are meant to be compressed by the block and head surfaces:
Quote: "they are designed to compress and seal between 2 metal surfaces, NOT against one another"
Just to clear a point, Regards Frank.

    G`day Frank

It may not seem to read as such but i`m agreeing with your logic .

I too think that the compression of the two gaskets will be where the problem is found or because of the order and/or way up of fitting the gaskets but because of their design , i think they can be made to work and this is my reason for the final torque setting of the bolts .

If Mangie was using 2 Rover composite gaskets i doubt they would be reliable again because of their design .

These Felpro gaskets are a bit different to other gaskets because although they are composite , made up of different materials it`s not done in the Rover manner .

Depending on which way up they are used .........

Metal head surface to metal gasket surface , fibre gasket surface to metal gasket surface , fibre gasket surface to metal block surface or a number af variations .

If you can understand from my description of the gaskets you`ll hopefully understand as said not questioning your logic and i could be wrong but i don`t think you are familiar with these gaskets ?

    Cheers
