After having replaced the RH engine mount, the solid drone in mine has become more of a vibration / drone, and it now has a vibration at idle that caused the loose oil filler flap to make so much noise that I removed it. As the LH mount appears to have suffered the same fate as the RH one, I think its worth investing in a replacement for that one too as the noise still makes my head ring after a few hours driving. But I think with mine the problem is really a significant vibration in the 2500-2750 rpm range.

very similar here graeme. i have had the right one changed and the drone is still there for me between 2200-2400. to my eye, the left one looks fine, but obviously there's something up. on a side note, i had the cat removed last weekend and it has helped the drone/vibration a bit too.

After spending $550 on 2 new engine mounts, the drone in my TD5 is still there. So my desire to upgrade to a TDV6 D3 has added impetous - I've done with trying to overcome this problem.

This might be completely random but if you've got ACE fitted then have a look between the valve block & the chassis. I've seen several cars with stones trapped in there which causes a awful droaning noise at a particular rev range.

Thanks for the thought but its not that - been there too. As well, I can make ACE drop its pressure so that ACE is silent (bars floppy).

I have also found my Td5 a little harsh. I changed to the good oils in the motor with not much change but found a significant improvement when I upgraded all diff and gear oils to Castrol full synthetic......a very big difference. The harshness is still there, however.

I have been told that it is the flexible part of the exhaust coming from the manifold.

    Cheers

cheers, yeah ive heard that too. i just dont see how that part could resonate so loudly and thoroughly through the entire cabin though. it definately feels like something with more mass behind it. ive ben wondering if its possibly somethings trans related? could the torque converter be out of balance? i'm only thinking this as its speed is consistent with the engine. is that right? or maybe its a 5cyl trait and it just happens that when the 5 pistons are spinning at that frequency (2250rpms) it causes a natural resonance in the cabin. i hope there is a definate answer though. its annoying when driving at around 95-105kmh and u can feel the vibration throughout the cabin. makes an annoying rattle in the transmission tunnel section of my centre console too!
