    Megasquirt computer

Has anyone ever installed one of these into a V8 Rover?

I have a 14CUX 3.9 V8 Disco at the moment. I'd primarily like it for the dual ignition map and seems a good idea to get rid of the AFM in favour of the MAP. Plus it would be nice to fiddle with but without access to a dyno to do it properly (unless paying big dollars) then that might be a never ending source of pain.

I have looked through the MS forums a few times over the last few months but always come away confused. Would I be able to just remove the 14CUX computer and then get a new socket and wire the MS into that and plug it in?
    Plus fitting the MAP obviously.

There just seems to be a lot of extra wiring/hardware stuff people talk about to get it running right. Plus working out a map to get it running.
Is there a base map to get it running and you tune from there?

I just need an idiots guide to MS on the Rover V8 to get my foot in the door.

It's the future of fuel injection....once people work out how to use it!

I fitted a megasquirt to my 3.5 Rangie.
It was actually quite easy. I had an old ECU from a BMW that had the same plug so I used that, and yes it was just pull out the Lucas and plug in the MS. The software that you get, MegaTune, will basically take the original base map and tune it for you as you drive.

However, I've now got a 3.9 Rangie, dual fuel.
I can't find a plug to wire up to, so I'm wiring it up to the existing harness. I know there are more issues to resolve, ie. the idle control is much more complex on the 3.9.
I haven't done a lot yet as I run on LPG 90% of the time. I've also got to resolve how to wire up with the changeover switch to run petrol/LPG.

Then I can change over to computer control ignition and then have different timings for petrol/LPG.

Still plenty to do, but now I've got a new laptop that doesn't have a serial port so I have to resolve that issue first.

Will report back when fixed, but yes it is worth it.

You buy a USB to serial port adaptor

Thanks Streaky. I've had a bit of a read through that today. Will read it in full when I get the time.

I have just finisehed converting my 93 4.6ltr rrc to crank trigger and coil packs. Plan to start tuning it this week. The difference in idling and starting 9both hot and cold) compared to the factory ecu and wolf3d ver3 ecu is night and day. Im using a wolf 3d ver4 ecu to run it. Currently runnig a 4+1 trigger disc and plan to upgrade to 36-1 when i get a bit more freetime. The 36 tooth trigger will allow more precise control of fuel and igntion timing.

With the engine idling in sequcial injection mode the idle is super stable and smooth (it'l happly idle at 500rpm in drive with no idle control applied to it) with the ecu set to bank fire mode (as per the original Lucas ecu) the fuel mixture fluctuate and the idle speed begins to wander.

I can wait to get the car out on the road and test it out

This is an interesting read about the 14CUX system and how it operates.
