Hey All
My brakes have been really squeeky of late (last 6 months at least) and I have been having real problems with the three amigos popping up when off road in dusty conditions. I have had them 4 times in the last 4 weeks.
So, I am thinking of how I can solve this problem. I dont think I have a faulty sensor as the codes indicate that it is a different one each time, but I am thinking it might be the pads. I dont know what sort my mechanic fits (I suspect them to be cheapies) and he claims he hasnt had any issues with squeel before. When I got the disco it had the LR pads which were super grippy but created a lot of dust ont he fornt wheels.
Any suggestions on how to solve the problem? If I should change the pads are there any reccomendations for replacements?
Cheers
Angus

I don't know if this still applies, but a friend of mine had "Metal King" pads on his HT Holden ute and they always squealed. I'd hate to think what it was doing to his discs.
My only advice is don't scrimp on these things. Go for high quality (Land Rover genuine or decent brand) heavy duty bits. Dust might look bad but it's pretty easy to wash off and nowadays we have no asbestos in brake and clutch parts in Australia.
From the mouth of brake man (and LR phile) in Croydon-
"When you replace the pads on D2, ALWAYS have the discs machined."
The harmonics from the brake operation are largely magnified by true pads bedding into used disc surfaces, leading to 3 Amigos and ABS logged faults.
BTW, brake man uses Bendix pads after machining. He reports no problems with 3 Amigos. And AMV uses Bendix on their brake jobs, but only after machining discs.

Hmm..shouldnt have to do that given that the pads and discs were replaced at the same time and I have always had squeeling.
How much is it to get the discs machined? I am thinking of changing to LR pads and might get the discs done...

I'd try the antivibration material on the back of the pads first.

Agree with you there, but if problem persists....
Check around. Varies from $15 per to $25 per disc.
PM if you need the names.
