I actually found it pretty easy to pull the seats and floor out and pull the gearbox out through the top.
Having slept on this, and gone through the 5 stages of grieving..
Denial - This can't be happening...its a RANGIE
Anger - You piece of English s***** engineering, I should have learnt my lesson after the first one.
Bargaining - Come on, it will run, Pleeeese, can it be something simple and easy. I promise I'll still love you if it is.
Depression - Sitting on the back porch with a VB in each hand, staring at the immobile vehicle...
Acceptance - gonna fix it.....
I've decided to send it off to get done as I don't have suitable space or time - first call will be to Techno British. Its also a good opportunity to consider a 5 speed box as 100km/h with an LT95 = industrial deafness, so any ideas on this? (The missus says I don't deserve it, 'cos I didn't look after the 4 speed I've got). I'm unsure as to what would be best - LT85, LT77 or LT95 with OD. What is going to be the cheapest and hassle free conversion?

Unfortunately I only have about 1m either side of the Rangie in the shed, and no solid ground outside, bar two concrete stips for the driveway.
How true, except swap that **** VB for a Mid in one hand and a Scotch in the other.
At least pulling the gearbox in a S3 is **** easy:
rip floor and seat base out (2hrs) all done.
Remove transfer from back of gear box (1hr) two blokes pick up case and move it by hand.
Remove gearbox from motor (1hr) two blokes pick up box and move it by hand.
No fancy tools or hoists required.
Sounds to me like you have broken the clutch pivit post out of the bellhousing remove the engin is the best and quickest way how do i know this you may ask well lets just say that after breaking 2 bellhousings i wont be breaking a third![]()
