I may be totally off the paddock, but aren't most of these dramas actually caused by overheating, which is more the result of a problem as opposed to the cause?
Little dramas like thermostats failing and causing overheating, hoses blowing due to having too much oil leaking on them, radiators being blocked causing temp increases which then balloons hoses into bursting, and anything else that actually gets the engine hot enough to blow that all important gasket and the detemper the cylinder head alloy?
I didn't think the gaskets just blew and/or the heads just lost their hardness because they reached a certain mileage? Or do they.........:eek:
the fire rings that form part of the gasket have a limited life, the harder you work the engine the shorter the life, then you have the monday wednesday and friday arvo versions of the gasket....
of course you get the same deal on the head so then its a case of did the head take out the gasket or did the gasket take out the head?
I know some of you guys see it as preventive maintence , But why dont you just replace the whole car incase it :oops2::eek2::Rolling::bangin::tease::D
Mine carcked it at ~40k. :mad: Over-heated on the Hume Highway near Gundagai .....rebuilt the motor at some expense.
I was told that the motor was probably assembled at 4:55 pm on Friday afternoon and that the head hadn't been tightened down properly in the first place...
Who knows the truth of it?
Any way she's still going.
