    what year Rangie?
    1982 had the high comp motor with the .0996 high range transfer gears that are QUIET Mine was very quiet in its first life after rebuilding the whole thing at 230000k I sold it with 525000k on it and it was still quiet.
    I rebuilt it as did not check the oil in the transfer case and when towing a boat it got a bit hot and smashed the bronze thrust washers, my fault not the gearbox.
    In my opinion one of the best boxes ever made for the rangie

    I'm not sure how many revs, but 1st is quite high and in 4th I reckon it's doing about 2500 - to 3000 rpm. I think the gearbox isn't .0996.

    Anyway, the Rangie is going to be off the road for a couple of months. I've decided to pull the gearbox myself. I will also use the opportunity to continue to good work that's already been done to the Rangie and bring it up to spec and at the same time getting intimate with Qld public transport. The mssus is organising the shed this week while I'm at work (lucky me ) and also helping in putting a shopping list together for other stuff for the beast - the black hole in the back yard is beginning to open up.........

    Gearbox ready to go....

    The interior of my Rangie has been stripped and the gearbox is ready to come out.
    My question is;
    How much does an LT95 weigh?
    I'm also looking at a couple of other LT95 boxs which are not in a vehicle. What should I be looking for in relation to condition etc.

    I removed my interior and havs lifted the floor. Also good opportunity to tend to rust etc. and we have decided to do a bit of restoration of the interior as well as put in some custom wiring for toys . So, in some respects, not an entirely bad thing. Although the loving relationship with Queensland Rail is wearing thin.
