    Transfer Case Coming Out

Its a 1993 V8 Disco with 187,000km . The transfer case is coming out to replace the main seal to stop it leaking oil . This is a 7 hour job and will cost me more than $500 . Well worth it to keep SWMBO happy and fewer oil stains on the concrete . Question is , while the transfer case is on the bench , is there other work that should be considered ?

Hopefully you mean the whole gearbox is coming out - and replacing the engine main oil seal - as taking a TC off is about an hour off and an hour on. But if it is coming off, then as well as it's input seals, then a set of output seals and a set of intermediate shaft o rings. Maybe a new set of output bearings ( They're standard bearings, easy to replace, and a new set will reduce vibration)

book time for a roll in roll out tcase replacement (no rebuild work just swapping new for old) is 6 hours... in reality an experienced spanner twirler can do it in 3 and replacing the seals should take no more than 1 hr for all 3 including a very light linishing of al the seal running surfaces.

Depending on how the handbrake is (the one in the car) pulling that out and eyeballing that should be done with attention paid to the drum being out of round.

other than that its mainly the adjustments on replacing the box that need to be watched closely.
