    Wagon door

Got a 2000 Td5 extreme wagon, the ribs on the rear door have cracked, (the ones that the skin is attached to). One crack is on the bottom horizontal rib and one is on the vertical rib that is just under the window. I was thinking that i might mig the cracks and brace the ribs with some 25 x 25 RHS and weld them alongside the ribs. The later models of the extreme had a much thicker door and I assume it was to strengthen it to prevent these issues.
Questions, What do others do other than install a rear wheel carrier? And would the later model door trim fit the earlier door to enable it to be beefed up? I don't want to really put a wheel carrier on oit as I might give it the flick later in the year
