    Radiators

    The Radiator in my series 3 has given up the ghost.
    Had 3 welds in 2 days and has sprung another leak.

    So i asked how much a new radiator was..... after he stopped laughing he told me they dont make them anymore and they would have to recore mine.

    So i said ok sure as long as it works. ( the wleds have all been top and bottom not on the core though)

    Asking how much i would be up for he said around the $650 mark.....WTF???

    The car isnt worth a hell of a lot more than that,

    Come on guys is there a cheaper option out there anyone knows of?

    It is the rover 6 motor.

    HELP.

    Yeah, sounds about right. I got a quote like that for my 2a rad in Katherine about 5 years back. They seem very reluctant to fix old-school copper core rads now, unless it's in big machinery. I guess that's where the money is. Notice that all new cars have aluminium and plastic radiators now. Much more sensible in the throwaway generation.
    I was told to buy a new one, and the only ones available were made in the Philippines, so I got one. When I got it back out home (400km) it wouldn't fit under the bonnet without bashing the top tank down, and all the hoses were different. I rang back to complain and they just blew me off with "That's normal."
    I then towed a caravan to the Territory, and hot days kept defeating the radiator. As soon as I found a good second hand one, I turfed that 'new' one.
    It's what you must expect nowadays. All work is done to the lowest possible cost.
    Just think about that when next you see a Space Shuttle launch...

    If the core is good, or will clean up a decent radiator joint should be able to fix it up; are they assuming that the core is stuffed without checking?

    Worst case with a good core would be having to find a good top and bottom tank to go on your core. I've got plenty but they're still attached to stuffed cores.
