second radiator and fan in my S3 GS.

I'm full of questions at the moment. Gota get my knowledge up and what better forum to do it.

Anyways, in front of my main radiator but behind the grill I have a smaller tube radiator system with fan with two outlets. None of the hoses are connected. What is this and should I restore it for use? I'm sure this is a dumb question.

(it is on my 79' GS with rover 6cyl)

    cheers

Its an oil cooler that from my understanding was there for vehicles that were run stationary in hot conditions.
With modern oils I dont think its as important as it use to be,

As djam says, it is an oil cooler. Required for stationary use, and was fitted to many if not all army S3s and many S2as, where, for example, the vehicle could have been used for battery charging when stationary.

Although not specified for non-stationary use, they are a good idea if doing a lot of towing, especially in hilly country. Not needed for normal use. I doubt very much whether newer oils make much difference to the need.

Mmm, I don't know that you can, I can't think of any points on my holden conversion (Series 3 FFR) that would allow one to be connected (I don't have one).

That said, i'm going the other way as a swap with a mate.

    Does it look like this?

    Then it should have this:

    On the engine.

You used to be able to get an aftermarket oil filter mount which had an outlet and inlets to connect to a cooler for holden red motors couldn't you?
Sure my HG Monaro had one.

Frazer is correct there were a number of brands of oil cooler adapters for Holden red engines, some of which were actually spin on spacers onto the standard oil filter mount. A five minute job - I would be checking with Repco or Lynx engineering to see if they are still available.
