    D2 vibration at idle

    OK guys & girls

03 D2 TD5 auto. First start in the morning all ok, put it in reverse or drive at idle and sometimes you get a strange vibration through the car. Put it in neutral vib is gone. Only happens a couple of time a week. Once its warm it never happens. I've got my money its a torque converter thing????.

    Anyone else had this.

    Regards Justin

I notice it says Work Horse in your signature. Done some serious heavy towing? Check the td5 engine mounts, especially the RHS one.

Mine were stuffed and causing some strange sounds turning right and vibrations at idle.

See my post on engine mounts.

mine does this too on occasion, and mostly when the trans is cold too. perhaps its the fluid we use? i'm using a valvoline dex3. also perhaps its something in the electrics/solenoids sticking sometimes? i hope you(i) get an answer from the knowledgeable guys on here too.

Could be the fluid who knows. But I may put a service kit through the trans and try another brand of oil to yours and see.

Gday, sounds like engine mounts after what MR Automotive told me, on the last service they said engine mounts are looking like replacement soon, they told me car will vibrate on idle or take off and will not cause any major damage if the go all together, Quoted $350 each side

Have a look at how to check your engine mount and the pictures in my TD5 RHS engine mount post. The rubber in the mount may well be expanding a bit when engine bay heats up. Enough to tighten up and stop the vibration.

My 03 TD5 Auto only had 89,000 klms on the clock. You are hauling a heavy load also.

Ditto what MarknDeb said, MR at 90K serv. said engine mounts were sagging and (no rush) but would probably start the vibes sometime. Didnt happen but done at 100K serv. ($310 x 2) anyway.
