Thanks for that - yes I have one S2B that is going to remain basically original barring the 3 litre engine which was reconditioned and at a price I couldn't refuse ($600.00).

This other one is for a tow vehicle and can't imagine doing long weekend trips to Victoria, South Australia and Queensland with a vehicle in tow behind a standard S2B. Maybe I should forget my Land Rover and have a Winebago but that's not the point.

What about using a Leyland 698NV and Turner M5A 5 speed? - I have one of those matings on the farm. (Still has the BX851 truck around it though.) Very heavy engine me thinks.

The 6.98 out of a Boxer is miles too bulky and heavy. A 4.98 out of a Leyland tractor would perhaps be size and mass suitable but probably underpowered.

The Turner would be a bit puddy also. I remember helping a mate change one out of a Commer knocker roadside. We were both young, fit, and 14+ stone and it took the best efforts of the two of us combined to lift the Turner box. We used two fanbelts as slings and stood on the chassis rails to lift it back in.

Thanks but I wasn't serious about the 698.

I still think the 265 Hemi is the way to go.

At work today a friend came in and said he recently purchased a four door running Rangie at a bargan price for parts on another project.
That other project is not going ahead and the vehicle is advailible for wreaking.
It has a V8 with 5 speed........I dont know the year model.
My mate will take 250 dollars for all the transmission .
    220 dollars for the motor.
You may have to drop it out your self.
    The vehicle is located Nowra.
Every thing is advailible and I think he may take 600 dollars cash for the lot.
Any one fair dinkum PM me.......no tyre kickers

Thanks for the heads up on this vehicle, had a look at it today with a view to buying the lot. Had a little trouble running, the excuse was a lack of fuel which sounds probable.

However all is not what it appears, yes it is a 4 door - sort of, and does have a 5 speed. What struck me as odd was that it has a 2/82 manufacture date and 1985 Phase II dash/doors and in fact 1986+ switches and radio location.

Checking with both CalVIN and Classic Landrovers VIN calculator, the date on the VIN plate comes up as a 2 Door CKD with a suffix listed as F so 1979 date. Will have to check the chassis number matches the VIN.

Not that it matters, as the chassis will be scrapped in any case. Have made the deal but not as low as you suggested, perhaps the $600 was the price to you.

In any case the purchase will be be very useful to liven up a couple of my projects.

P.S. Anyone looking for 1985 body panels/trim or seats could P.M. me in a couple of weeks. May even have a couple of axle assemblies.
