I investigated this road a bit with mine, see my tag line. I was able to source a tdi ZF gearbox with about 140k's for about $1200, and they would give me $600 back for the R380, plus about $600 for the parts (pedal box etc..). Didn't have the cash at the time and went back when I did, but couldn't source the parts anymore. Then I lost my Workshop, so I gave up.
From What I gathered was that its not too hard a conversion, but very time consuming, You've basically got to strip the dash to get the pedal box in, plus the radiator or transmission cooler.
In the end I would of given it a go, but not an option now. Ritters wanted about $8000 drive in drive out.
