Converting Disco manual tdi to auto

Just curious if the zf gearbox from a v8 will bolt straight into my manual?
What else needs to be considered?
    Shifter.
    Oil Cooler (and pipes).
    What about the bell housing?
I presume the Transfer case just bolts on and there is no change in drive shaft lengths etc.

    I have a 97 disco with an R380 gearbox
    The auto is from a 3.9 V8 ZF 1502428 1043 010 741 and 4 HP - 22

    Not for your Tdi

Better off chasing the whole kit and kaboodle from another Tdi

    What rovercare said.

T-case is the same, but the ZF has a small stub-shaft which engages with the t-case input gear.

Bellhousing is completely different between auto and manual (may even be integral on ZF?) and between V8 and Tdi.

Some guys in the US have fitted V8 ZFs to tdis, but as well as the bellhousing issue, you need to do a few mods to the kickdown cable to get it to shift properly.

A mate converted a defender from manual-auto. He bought a box (and t-case) from a Tdi disco (but he used the defender t-case to keep the lower high range). It is definitely the easiest way to go.

Went down this road, sold the manual Disco and bought an auto Disco.

There is no way in hell a V8 autobox will drive nicely behind a Tdi unless you want to revalve it.

IMO its a nightmare project. But then I was trying it with a 200 Tdi

Yep, granted, he has a lot of stuff on the Disco.

I was quoted $9,500 drive in manual, drive out auto. In my instance it was a no brainer to upgrade, but I guess if a lot has been spent already, then.... *cough* its only money

If you have a wreck that your taking it all out of so that you have everything there then it wouldnt be hard but very time consuming thats all.
