Just checking on this job before I do it.

Do I need just two ESR1594L O rings for the cooler ends of the 2 hoses or are another two needed as well for the engine end ?

The engine/filter head end needs O rings too if you are pulling them.

There's an ungodly leak on mine ATM and it's one of the bloody Pirtek hoses leaking

Looks like a trip to Tamworth for a replacement hose.

Yes both ends of the oil cooler lines uses o-rings.

If you can get the ESR1549L part then great otherwise some Viton o-rings from Pirtek / Bearing Wholesalers etc.

    and finally ...

The union nuts appear to be 24mm. Are they actually metric or an imperial size ?

Metric. Don't try too hard or overtighten will crush the sealing ring.

After reading this thread and degreasing and cleaning around the filter adapter i can now see oil is leaking quite badly out of the thermostat housing, i havent removed it yet since i dont have a new o-ring.
Hoping that i can get one from repco or burson's tomorrow morning as we are meant to be going away for a week, would rtv seal it if i built up both sides of the o-ring ?

If you are taking the thermo housing off, there is a really thin (and Hard as diamonds) paper gasket between it and the block.
I highly advise you buy some quality gasket remover, it is in a really awkward position a razor type scraper and a lot of patience is needed, watch you don't get gasket remover in your eyes or you will need a seeing eye dog.
I replaced all of the O rings on the pipe connections and in the spring loaded by pass or open valve also tape up the sensor thread, good luck, a bastard of a job, regards Frank. PS try and buy an original O ring and gasket, I couldn't buy one that matched aftermarket.

I'd be worried about getting silicone into the oil gallery, try and get the right O ring if you can and that t/stat is a bitch to get back square and straight in my experience, unless someone has a trick they can share.

Thermo housing isnt coming off only the part with the o-ring, its leaking badly so o-ring is ideal if i can get one tomorrow.
Luckily i have a complete spare housing if required, yeah it is pretty tight for space.

From memory you have a hardened washer, spring and the t/stat, and that all has to be depressed and pushed in square by the union assembly and thread in the two small cap screws at the same time and not have it go off centre.
