I'm using Maxxis 751's cheap and no dramas for me, but I drive like an old man.
Maybe you need to too, at least whist you have tyres you don't trust
At the moment, I am running Dunlop Adventurers (235/70 16) on my S1 Discovery.
On a wet road, they are crap. To make things worse, I dont have ABS so skidding on these things is so easy. They have heaps of tread but I think the compound is quite hard.
Can anyone tell me what the best wet road tyre is for a Discovery? Assuming nearly all on road use.
Thanks for any advice.

What tyre pressure are you running at?
Cheers

I had Dunlop Adventurers more than 10 years ago and also found them rubbish in the wet. Lately I have been using Toyo Opats as road tyres and I can honestly say they are probably the only tyre I would thnk about buying again. They are well priced, wear well (look like getting 90-100,000 kms from them) and are excellent on the road especially in the wet.
The place I bought them from guaranteed I would think they were better than the Michelin Synchrones I had before but at more than $100 a tyre cheaper I did not believe them. I was wrong.
I know of 4 other people who are now using Opats and all are very happy.

Toyo have just released an Open Country H/T as a predominantly road tyre. Would this be better again than the OPAT for wet roads?
I had 2 sets of toyo open country's on an 85 jackaroo. Put over 200,000 km on it in that time.
When I was looking for tyres for the disco, I wanted those but had too much trouble tracking them down locally
I have not seen or heard any reports about the H/T tyre. What I have found that is the wetter the roads, the better tyres with more open treads work compared to H/T tyres. It depends on how wet the roads are that you consider to be the average you will be driving on.
I had a friend with a Porche who could not keep up with my Rangie with mud tyres in torrential rain as the closed pattern of the road tyres caused much more aquaplaning.
I also know that on average damp to wet roads that my Goodyear MTR tyres are dangerous at speeds well below what is safe with the Opats.

On my D1 are Yokohama Geolandar tyres.
They grip like "sh*t to a blanket"
However, I do think the ride is a little harsh...
YOKOHAMA / OUR TYRES / Geolandar A/T G012
Maybe I have too much air in them.
