    Fuel pump v8 Disco series1

Hi Every body, I know that this has been dealt with before and I tried to search , but couldnt find info.

What happens when a fuel pump "craps out", is it a spasmodic thing or does it just not work one day.

Does it die a slow death, or does it just not work one day?

What are the replacemetn options, I have heard of a commodoere fuel pump is this correct.

    Thanks Andrew

Pedro's link explains how to replace it but as for symptoms when mine went it was a starting issue. I drove it into Blacknight's driveway and switched it off. Started and stopped it a couple of times doing what we were doing and then it just wouldn't restart one time.
Initially I just bypassed the fuel pump relay which worked for a little while (week or two) but then it died completely.
Once it was running it would run forever it was just the starting that I had issues with. Turns out the brushes in the pump motor were almost non existent.

I've also read that heavy weight in the cargo area on top of the little fuel pump access plate can dislodge the electrical connector.

yea, Justin's right,, 99% of the time you get a warning,, before it fails completely.

turn ignition on,, hear pump? cool.
turn on, no sound? leave ignition on and bash the bottom of the fuel tank. usually works once, maybe twice. but THATS your warning

    once running they keep going,,

    Yep....

My fuel pump deaprted earth about 2 months ago. I was at the in laws, parked it in the driveway and jumped in the next morning and no good. I removed the cover plate in the cargo area, gave it a hit and it started to work again. I left it running for a while and it worked fine, turned it off and then same problem again (similar to early reply).

Not sure about options, but fuel pump was about 250 from Britcar in West Melbourne, probably similar all round. Fitting is easier as in common thread....
