Another 3.9 is the only option with 3k budget AND a mech. doing the work![]()
OKay as some know the engine on my '98 auto Disco 3.9V8 packed it in and need a replacement...
What suggestions do you have for a nice simple swap for my mechanic to do... don't want to spend a fortune... cheap as possible really, around the 3k or under if possible.
Something a bit more economical would be nice
Cheers in advance

If you've benefited from one or more of my posts please remember, your taxes paid for my skill sets, I'm just trying to make sure you get your monies worth.
If you think you're in front on the deal, pay it forwards.
If you want it to be cheaper then why not rebuild what you've got and run it on straight LPG or dual fuel.
That way you get $2k off the LPG and if it is being done at the same time it might not work out to be as much as if it was a straight install.
What happened to your engine?
Could call Murray at Jag & Rover Spares 07 3356 5255 and see if he's got any import motors in stock
Yep, replace with another Rover engine. If you're heads etc are ok maybe get a 4.6 short motor.
$3k......
That will get you a rebuild and thats it.....
Get a good 2nd hand 3.9 and plonk it back in....
Then you have change for a bus ticket to get to work cheaper
Three big ones will get you a rebuild. If you have done some damage like sticking a leg out of bed, or breaking a crankshaft and busting main bearing housings out of the block, then get a used engine and rebuild that. You wont get an engine swap done for $3k.

sorry not engine swap for 3k just an engine or close to itBeen quoted 750 to install.
Got a couple prices on reco 3.9's for that or up to 4500 for a 4.6.
The straight LPG sounds like it could be an option... any idea if different bits are needed as have access to the gas attachments etc off a 3.9 from a '90 rangy
