Hi all...
I have had the heater matrix on the disconaute go,300tdi. I have cut the heater hoses and used a brass plumbers "u" to get by.
It was mentioned to me that a likely cause was pressure built up by combustion gases. From a blown head gasket.
Can anyone shed any light on this?
And... it looks like a hell of a job to change out the matrix, so dont want to do it twice!
Is it true the aircon has to be opened?
What is the best way to verify the state of the gasket?
It has only done 140k, but I have only done 20k of those,so not sure what has gone before. No noticable coolant loss or overheating prior. No oil in water, or water in oil that I can see.
Thanks for any advice you care to offer...

Leaking heater cores are not uncommon.
Changing tha matrix is easy on the 300Tdi Update. One does not use the official LR method.
Several of us have done it and it has been discussed here as recently as last week.
