d2 2003 'new style' headlights globe upgrade

OK I have done some reading but most posts do not specifically state if they are talking about the old defused lens (pre '03) or the newer style face lifted (post '03 D2 - and some late '02) clear lens.

I have an '03 D2 with the clear lenses and one of the low beam globes has blown. My questions are -

    - I assume the globes currently fitted are the original. What is their power rating?

    - From what I have read, the Phillips blue vision (have already forgotten their name) are some of the brightest, whitest globes. Are they going to be better then the standard globe if I were to get the standard replacement from LR?

    - Do any of the wiring to the headlight upgrades apply to my model D2 or only to the earlier models?

I do NOT run any spotties and am not going to.

    Hope you can help

    Cheers

The bulbs are all 55W H7, high beam, low beam and driving lamps. Given the nature of the headlight unit I would strongly advise against any higher wattage bulbe as it is a sealed and very plastic unit, so heat is its enemy. You could also destroy the clear polycarb lens.

I've been looking at the idea of the headlight wiring upgrade, but again, the unit is basically a plug in module, so very hard to do. It is actually a single multiplug to each headlight module (park, indicator, high, low).

As to which bulb of the same rating is best... what ever you think is best.

Hi catch-22, as dm_td5 posted, the wiring poses a problem as far as upgrading it so better globes would be the best way to go.

I had the same set up in my 03 FFRR and after blowing a few standard globe and trying few different so called high power globes, I was advised to try the Philips Crystal Vision globes in my H7 low beams.

They made a huge difference and the next day I replaced my H7 high beam globes and all 6 H4 130w driving light globes with the 55w Philips globes.

The advantage with using these globes is not that they are brighter, it’s that they give a very white light and this makes night driving a whole lot easier.

This is what the light looks like.

Double check but I think your low and high beam are H7 globes.

BTW, Bursons are usually the cheapest place to get the Philip’s Globes.
