This was on my 2a, but could have happened on almost any Landrover.

Over the last week or so the clutch engagement point has moved closer to the floor, so on Saturday I investigated. The first guess was hydraulics, but a quick check showed the fluid level was normal, which, while it does not absolutely rule out an hydraulic problem, makes it pretty unlikely. I then came to the conclusion that the problem was probably one of the pins in the cross shaft tube had broken, as the symptoms were the same when this happend a couple of years ago. So I pulled the RH floor out to check. No lost motion there, but the pedal moved a couple of inches before the slave cylinder pushrod did.

Next step was to pull off the inspection plate on top of the pedal box. This immediately showed the problem - the nut on the pushrod that the trunnion pushes against was about an inch from the trunnion, so that the pedal arm had to move that far before moving the master cylinder piston at all. Took about five minutes to do up the nut and make sure it was adjusted properly, and another five to put the inspection plate back. And about twenty minutes to put the floor back in.

It is nearly a year since I fitted a new master cylinder, and I have no idea why it took this long for the problem to show. Obviously I did not tighten the nut enough, but the problem showed up quite rapidly only in the last week. Maybe the prolonged highway driving to Cooma and back loosened it, although it is hard to see how it could have done so.
