    coolant temp in td5

    with the nanocom i can see the coolant temp. its always around the 89.5-92.5 mark when driving this last fortnight(how long ive had the nanocom). is this the nomal temp for the td5? cheers. i have no reason to suspect any problems, just curious. oh it does always "lose the first 1cm of coolant in the resivoir when i top it up, but it never gets lower than that. curious.

    I'm pretty sure they generally run a little bit hotter than that.

    really! i thought this was a number that semeed more than high enough.

    following comments are not based on any actual mechanical knowledge...

    seeing as water boils at 100(less the higher above sea level u get- ordoes the pressure in the cooling system negate that effect), i would have thought keeping it below that number would be of real benefit to the overall flow.

    either way i'm happy if its true that 91ish is if anything below average for 24deg days. my temp guage is always set in the middle of its range.

    thats about the nominal temp for an alloy headed engine.

    but you can get it hotter if you push it.

    anything over 104 is bad. and under 88 while in use would be time for some investigation.

    the coolant level Ive found on most td5s is between 1 cm and 1 inch below the seam of the coolant tank.

    I agree with Bilknight about the coolant levels. They almost always seem to be under the seam.

    Just for interest sake, the V8 in the Discovery Series II runs around 92 deg C on the highway to 98 deg C whilst waiting at lights.

    This is with a new radiator and new water pump and new thermostat.

    With low rev running around it'll go over 100 degree's. Graeme on here will be able to explain more as he is very up to speed with this. I don't think the TD5 gets too excited until about 110. With coolant and pressure the coolant wont boil until up at about 125 degrees.
