ID be aiming for the block on as near to level with the plane of the piston face as possable and about in the middle of 2 pots but in reality almost anywhere that is a singular piece of metal with no joints between it and the combustion chamber should do nicely.
Here a pic of the side of the 4.6 block - flywheel to the RHS. The threaded hole in the middle above the welch plug is the boss for the knock sensor.. There is a boss on the other side for the other bank.
Sorry the engine is wrapped in plastic.
