    Serpentine Belt

    Guy's,

I have just had my 2004 Disco V8 serviced @ 43000 Km's and the report said that the above belt needed replacing due to showing signs of cracking.

Not sure what the belt does but if it's involved with timing I would have throught that it should have been good for at least 100000K or 5 years.

What are your thoughts or is this possibly a warranty issue.

    Cheers

It's your fanbelt. I thought they were good for 120000kms. That's what the Disco1 manual says. Guess it depends on environmental factors though.

the serpentine belt drives the water pump, alternator, power steering and air con, if it is 4 plus years old yep ditch it, it isn't too expensive to replace now, wait for it to break and do the maths then - tow home from woop woop at midnight with the wife cursing you.
like i said cheap to do now.

Pat - where do you get them for $35? I need to replace about once a year (or after any decent sand use).

    Thanks Guy's,

Had a look under the bonnet last night and it certainly is showing signs of cracking on the ribs.

How easy is this one to replace or do I just send back to dealer.

It's one thing to work on the old S1 but with these new vehicles there is no room and everything looks awkard and hard to get at.

    LR OEM Stealer $45.

I bought one for our Central Australia Trip. Looked at the manual and I was within 15,000 k's of changing it, so I did. Kept the old as backup.

    Too easy.
