    D2 wheel lock nut tool.

    Well my replacement SLS air bags finally arrived from the US today.

    I started working on the car to replace them, only to find that the wheel lock nut tool in my tool kit is the wrong one

    Anyone around the Brisbane area have a 'J' lock nut tool. The one in my kit is an 'E'.

    I just want to replace these air bags so I can drive my f*&kin car......it's been sitting in my garage pretty much since I bought it.

    You can make an adapter yourself, it you are handy with a mig - just get a good quality nut (the right size) and file out the internal threads so it just slips over the the locker (the better the fit the easier it is to use), place steel rod into the two holes/locators in the locker and whilst on the locker mig tack the little rods in place.

    The little rods only need to be just a tad taller than the nut

    You may want to make sure the battery / electronics are disconnected/isolated -

    Remove the nut with the rods still in place - then make sure they are properly tigged in place

    File grind to suit.

    Undo with pipe wrench
    Throw away
    Fit std nuts

    Never worry again.

    In the bush the lock nuts are nothing but a liability.

    I intend to follow Tombie's advice.

    Once I find some replacement nuts, I'll remove the lock nuts permanently.

    My D2 locknut tool has gone missing recently - a 23mm socket (double hex) whacked on with a hammer gets the locknut off. Based on the discovery that it was quicker than using the proper tool I decided the locknut is a waste of time and money - if someone wants your wheels they will just do the same. Rather than buy new nuts I just added a spare 23mm socket to the wheel change kit - easy...

    why not buy one?

    i had a stuffed "J" adaptor in the tool kit when I Bought Hugo and the replacement from Land Rover only cost about $15... I thought this was cheap! and the replacement covers for the security wheel studs are only about $4.50 - Little enough for a $15000 car..

    Replacement wheel nuts are about $24 each... I know it sounds like a lot but those lock nuts are made of cheese.

    Who would want to steal LR alloys anyway, they're pretty ordinary lol

    Thanks for all the replies guys.....

    I ended up buying one for LR as it was only $17.10, and they had the one in stock I needed.

    I was amazed at how cheap it was, and that they didn't have to order it in for me.

    The standard nuts are between $25 and $40 depending on which alloys you have.

    So problem sorted, and my new SLS air springs are installed as well.
