Brian - if you need any bits brought up and aren't in too much of a rush for them, I'm down in Perth at the moment and driving back up there on Friday.

Thanks, I haven't pulled anything apart yet as the water pump on the little tipper packed up. Thats first on the list for tomorrow and I'm sorting out the FFR (1980) one at the moment. I'll be in touch if I get at it by Friday.

    Oil cooler repair

Just so happens I have just repaired my oil cooler on td5 (1999 defender). The neck where hose joins to had corroded. Mechanic wanted $1700 ($1200 for new cooler), told him to **** off. I rang local spare parts and could get reconditioned cooler and gaskets for $600. Anyhow didnt need to. I pulled out existing oil cooler (takes about two hours-but pretty basic work), cut away the corroded neck and lathed up a new neck from alloy and welded it onto the housing. It welded well to the housing. Instead of $1700 it has cost me $30 for new gasket and four hours of my time.
