my series one is all matching numbers apart from the donk is a 2.25 however the dirt and crap on yours in a concern have a good look around and take some pics. however most places that advertise reco will be on an exchange basis so they pick up the trans and fit it for you the customer and return your ****ed unit to who ever does there transmissions
The bell housing and body are clean its just the extension to the transfer case that has had paint over the dirt. The transfer case is as dirty as it was before. I will have to have a good look under it tonight. This morning it was holding first till about 3200rpm which is a bit annoying when you are around the suburbs. I will have to check the RAV to see whats normal. The shop was neat and tidy. I believe they rebuild in house and send the torque convertors away to be split and rebuilt.

it may well be your box, but they probably only fixed the box, so it would not be unusual for them to not clean the transfer case as you are getting charged for that, and the last thing they want is for you to complain about the cost and not pay.
as for holding gears, if it's in a v8 disco, it should hang on in 2nd or third to about 7000 rpm with your foot firmly pushed thru the floor, i have no idea about kero engines though.

All V8s are limited to below approx 6000RPM deliberately by Land rover by the use of lifters that pump up at about 5800-6000RPM.

I didn't get time to check the RAV CD last night I think the TDI shift points would be much lower than the V8. the Tdi only revs to about 4000rpm

Yes the diesel shift points would be much lower, and if it is hanging in first the problem is almost certainly the governor at the back of the transmission sticking, which means they did not renew it .
I am assuming a 4HP22 with a kickdown cable not an electronic.
