    looking for LT230 reduction gears

ok not sure this is the right place for this but i'm chasing some LT230 reduction gears prefer 30% will probably take 50% gears though.

reason, goin V8/auto and would like some Xfer gears, and as maxi no longer is around i'm having trouble finding some.

    cheers

Try Ashcrofts in the UK. Not certain if they do them but they probably do!

    Ashcroft Transmissions

Not any more. My understanding is that Dave only produced one run of the 80% reduction gear set (used a different method to Maxi-drive to get 80%).

They didn't sell as well as the underdrive (on pto) that offers a much greater reduction with low-low, low, low-high and high.

I heard that Dave's supplier used sub standard steel/methods, so there were a few premature failures...

Maybe it is time for Dave to have another go?

Reduction gears for an LT230 TC are still kicking around from Maxi-Drive , spoke to Hi-tech Engineering last week which fitted a 30% reduction gearset ( I think ) to one of our Club members Discos

Has anyone looked into having their own low range gears made by a machine shop with gear cutting expertise? If not, am thinking of doing it myself later. Note you need to remove the low gear from the cluster on the intermediate shaft and securely fit a smaller one. Maybe making copies of Maxidrive gears would minimise design work as they seem proven good ones. They are straight cut gears, which are easier to make than helical.}. Extra noise from them should not be a significant problem. (Wouldn't want straight cut gears in high though!)
Indications of how the likely cost of having gears cut and heat treated etc should be interesting Wonder if decent ones could be made for less than around $1500, which I gather is about what Mal used to charge.

FWIW, there are some excellent race car gear manufacturers in Australia including Holinger Holinger Engineering (although I doubt he'd be interested as he used to have miles too much work with the V8's and BMW Motorsport) Pfitzner, http://www.ppgearbox.com.au/index-html.htm Albins gear, Albins off-road gear : Front page etc.

Maybe one of these speciality shops could generate sets ?

Mal (Ex maxidrive) still has a few bull gears left. Mal said he may make them in his spare time till used up. Now will be an exchange setup so you need to know what gear suits your box 1st or it will be out of action for a wile.

    cheers fellas,

spoke to barry at hi-tough today and he's having a chat to mal t'row for me. yeah he still has orders for O.S he is completing and turn a few more out until he's outta gear.

MR automotive are still in chats with mal re. making the gears, they're having another next week and by then they should have a fairly good idea if they will take them on or not.

    cheers
