    Rubber Drive Coupling D1

    Hi all

I just noticed the rubber coupling to the rear diff is starting to split on my 98 D1 (130,000 km). I know it has been replaced once already, does anyone know the expected life span of the coupling?

I can purchase a new one for $99, is there a stronger aftermarket unit that is available? if so could someone send me the details.

Looking forward to read your replies.

    Cheers Andy.

Best fix is to replace it with a UNI joint like the rangies have and early D1's otherwise you will be replacing the donut again in the near future

mine was using donuts quite a lot after a lift. I changed to a uni when the locker went in.

If your car is not used for hard offroad then I'd just replace it.

Mine was done twice in 30000 kms due to abuse. Then I changed to a uni joint.

I heard that the rubber donut was put in to absorb shock loads in the drive line. So there must be some method in Land Rover's madness.

I replaced mine at 160,000 km as a precaution. The Disco has a 40mm lift and has been used vigorously off road. It isn't a big job to change.

I've also had bad uni joints on the front and would rather change a donut than a uni.

So I reckon replace the donut with a new one and keep an eye on it.

My original donut's still ok after 130,000km. I have rear locker and lift ( not that the locker gets much use these days and the lift's sagged too )
But I carry a spare just in case.
$99 seems a reasonable price - i think I paid more. Just get it and buy a spare - cheap insurance.
