    FWIW you cant get the lay shaft out of any of the boxes without disturbing the main shaft, if you disturb the main shaft you should fully pull it down (without knocking out the bearings, thats the change over step, or dismantling the syncro units unless you are replacing them) and then re-assemble it in the correct sequence.

    You can bodge them out but it requires manipulation of the shafts in such a way that you can dislodge things that wont be apparent untill you get some serious RPMS on OR fluf a gear change and baulk grind the syncros...

    at that point all hell is free to break loose.

    If the gearbox rebuilder told you that the Mainshaft was not touched then he is Lieing to you, it is impossible to remove/replace the Layshaft without first removing the Mainshaft, Regards Frank.
