    Bad noise, wheel bearing?

    hi All

i have a very bad noise coming from my right rear wheel(i think). comes about after a kilometre or so of driving, starts off as a squeek and ends up being a grindy squeek-squeek-squeek. not the brakes, i fixed them today... the right rear sounds like a cement mixer when i jack it up and turn it, so i'm fairly sure its the wheel bearing/s. i have a copy of RAVE which should make it easy but my question is how hard is it to get the new bearings in, is there a need for a press or something?

i've never replaced a bearing before... do i need to pack them with grease, or will they come ready to install?

lastly, any other ideas of what it could be, if not the bearing? someone mentioned to me that it could be a uj? The handbrake binds a little during the rotation, could it be that?

pleeeeeeeeease no one say it could be the diff, although it would be a good excuse to get a locker... but i have more important things to spend money on than a locker!

    thanks

for starters jack up the left rear wheel and turn that. If the noise persists then its not just the wheel bearing (if it is the wheel bearing)

jack up the right hand side when your done and satisfied that its just a wheel bearing.

depending on the type of rover will depend on how hard (or easy) this is going to be.

if its a shed on wheels class, an early rangie, or diso then its essentially the same as doing a trailer wheel bearing with the exception of you have 2 52mm hub nuts as opposed to a nut and split pin

theres plenty of other threads on doing wheel bearings on site.
