opinion sought on Electra Ironman LT66 tyres.

i was offered some tyres today for fitment to my '88 RRC v8/5spd
they are Electra Ironman LT66 in 225/75 16. obviously a cheapo tyre but does anyone have any experience of them ? i have noticed more than one used set for sale in the states described as 75% worn so might this indicate owner dissatisfaction.
i wouldn't usually consider no-name brands but they are offered as part of a contra-deal which is otherwise good value. they are intended purely for tarmac use including some towing work. what do you think folks ? take a punt or will i rue the day ?
until now i've run on second-hand yokohama geolanders (which i liked) and very second-hand bfg a/ts (which i didn't)

75 % worn i wouldnt say thats owner dissatisfaction , Id say thats a owner changing his tyres when there due to be replaced
    Did you mean 25% worn

ah, so you spotted my deliberate, captain mainwaring style mistake. yeah, 75% tread remaining was what i meant to put.
that's what comes of owning an lt77, sometimes you let the clutch up and you wish you hadn't. now my brain is getting like that too.
judging by the smiley against your recommendation i will be fitting these based on a nudge and a wink. at least that's what i perceive it to be.
just as long as i don't end up cornering like this on them
thanks for the observancy and translation of the original post.

I just did a quick google and some people on Exploroz give them a good wrap so if they are cheap enough give them a go.

well it looks like i'm going to be the test-bunny for these tyres then, 'cos i've today agreed the deal that will see me riding on them next week.
my 14yo youngest son thinks they 'sound' cool but that could just be that he's heavily into black sabbath atm !
    so the immortal line.
"heavy boots of lead fills his victims full of dread"
might just be some kind of warning about what effect they'll have on my unsprung mass........
    i'll keep you posted.

well i collected the tyres on wednesday and i have to admit they don't look bad.
our high tech tyre changer machine didn't take too kindly to breaking the beads so i have to express my thanks to the blokes at highway tyres on the corner of governor and boundry roads in braeside who stripped,re-covered and balanced 5 wheels in about 25 minutes flat and all for $75 with a very reasonable $3 per carcass disposal fee. gee, those boys worked well as a team.

i had them mounted with the rather too prominent blue/white lettering inwards but its still a bit noticable. i'll try painting them out with tyre black.

the tyres certainly look of a good pattern for road use but my home run towing an ancient, rattly trailer was too noisy to judge the new tyres roadnoise. they couldn't have failed to impress for drivability though as the outbound run on the old ones had been with a good 3 tons on the drawbar,a spare lt77 in the boot, and the nose pointing skyward.

i'm reasonably confident these electra ironman a/t's will do me fine for my winter road based work. it looks like the 'suck-it-and-see' advice might well prove spot on. if i do get any dramas i'll make sure to post news though.
